The Longest-Shortest Month: Surviving the February Slump | The Homeschool Sisters Podcast

Oh, February. It’s a short month, but for homeschoolers, it can feel like it drags for about 2 years. But don’t worry, mamas- Cait and Kara have you covered.

In this episode, the sisters talk about how February is basically like homeschool PMS, “the husband shuffle,” lazy unit studies, and a ton of fun resources including one that Cait terms “math dessert!” Plus, the gals spill the beans about their MASSIVE February giveaway.

Thank you for this wealth of resources! We spent last February on the Alabama coast and it was glorious. However, this year we are staying out in Minnesota. It is our second year homeschooling and first year at home in February, so I was dreading the February slump that I have heard about. To survive, I scheduled several field trips (plays, dance performances, the orchestra). So we will be unschooling a bit. 😉

Also, I love that though shared about your Speilgaben. I bought one a couple months ago and was so overwhelmed by it that I haven’t even opened it up and used it! I would love to hear how you are using yours, as most blogs show preschool activities that would be far too easy for my six year old. However, I know that all of my children would love using it if I just take the time to pull it out and learn how to use it myself!

I don’t know why my alert didn’t work for this podcast, but I just discovered it and listened. What a fabulous perk for mid-February! I really enjoy your podcasts and am often nodding along! Thanks!

I listened to this at the beginning and again last night. This is my first year officially homeschooling and our first year without a trip planned. We’re struggling. Also I laughed both times when hearing the ‘husband shuffle’ amazing.

Cait I’m so glad you mentioned the Ordinary People Change the World Series. I looked these up after the podcast and my 3 kids (3 years old up to 8 years) are loving them. They beg me to read them over and over. They’re entertaining and informative. Really appreciate the share on this!! (My daughter now wants to be Lucille Ball for Halloween!)

I hope I am commenting on the correct podcast. I go caught up by listening to a couple in a row. For podcasts, I wanted to add Sparkle Stories for the kids! Also, Kara, are you still using the Charlotte Mason Business Math for either of your kids? Curious how that is going, if so. I bought it, it is great, but we have tapered out. There are only just so many things we can do!

Hello!! I remember listening to an episode a while back where Cait mentioned a book that she would read in the morning before the kids woke up that gave her some motivation/put her in a good mindset for the day. I thought it was a parenting book about relationship/love first with our kids….I thought it was this episode but I’m not finding it. Does that ring a bell? I was wanting to add it to my morning routine but I can’t remember the name of it. Thanks in advance!!!
