    The fact you made this podcast makes me so happy. I honestly feel like some women pretend it’s not a big deal, some months it’s hard for me to be upright I hurt so much, if not pain I’m a nut job. Can’t wait!

    Great chat, but I swear it gave me sympathy cramps. Kara, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but after getting awakened three times a night in what would appear to outsiders to be a murder scene, I cut out soy and it reeeeeally helped. Now I wake up in a bloodbath only about once during my holiday. In my family we’re extremely sensitive to estrogen. Being on the pill was awful. My chiropractor suggested I try rubbing Mexican wild yam (I think that’s it.) on my skin. Haven’t tried it, but I plan to. Also, for me Aleve/Naproxen works waaaaayy better than anything else. Excited to hear from someone who has tried the cup.

    Good for you to discuss this. I’m the weirdo who talks to other moms about the Diva cup because someone was brave enough to tell me about it and it has changed the impact of those days of the month. I’ve used it for a year now and it works for me on vacation at an amusements park or during busy school days or anytime “Aunt Flo” visits. 🙂

    Love your podcast! Just a friendly note on cramps and pain and not wanting to use ibuprofen or other painkillers all the time (I can relate…), that my nutritionist recommended Meriva (curcumin, from turmeric). You can google Meriva or curcumin and research to find actual, legit studies to prove its efficacy. I was a bit skeptical, but tried it for tooth pain I was having (pre- and post-root canal) and for cramps, and it worked like magic. And it has worked just to reduce inflammation if I’m sick or otherwise. The only downside is that it is quite a bit more expensive than advil, etc., but it works and isn’t damaging! Just wanted to share. I use the Thorne brand, Meriva-500. Hope this helps! Thanks for doing what you do! <3

    I love your podcasts!! This one especially hit home for me because I literally JUST went to the dr because after baby #3 I swear my PMS and cycles have been so much worse. I’m so glad to know I’m not alone! Thank you both for being so real and sharing!!

    Thanks for your podcast! I am a first-year homeschool mom, who is having a great year, thanks to podcasts like yours, who provide so much support and encouragement.

    On the topic of sleep… Have you heard of the book, “Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition” by Maryilyn M. Shannon — I believe it talks about how what we put in our bodies can affect our sleep. You may want to look into it! It has been a while since I read it, but she talks about how nutrition affects SO many parts of our lives, even those we may not see natural connections to.

    Oh, and I’ve also heard using the Creighton form of Natural Family Planning can help detect how our hormones affect things that are not working properly in our bodies. When you track your natural fertility, the instructor can help you interpret what is going on.

    This episode cracked me up! I DO think we need to talk about it more to normalize it. I just explained to my 10yo boy a couple weeks ago what a period was. I hadn’t intended to go there, but I was having my lady holiday and said how I felt tired and unwell and was just going to lay in bed for the afternoon. He remarked, “This seems to happen about once a month,” and I figured it was time to talk.
    I also am a diva cup convert, and I think the heavy flow thing has to do with age. I was pretty lucky up until my 33rd birthday (5 years since my last baby), and all of a sudden, things changed. Fatigue, bloating, and back cramps (in addition to the regular ones) are new and unwelcome visitors to my moon cycle. Plus…have you ever felt like your V was just going to drop out of your body? Like, I better put on my tightest panties just to hold everything in place kind of pain? Yeah. Thanks for your bravery in discussing what SHOULD be a normal subject but is weirdly taboo.

    Love, love, love this gals! I have endometriosis so I get you on huddling in the fetal position with cramps on the holiday 😉 I have recently started some turmeric supplements and ginger root. I now don’t even really realize when it’s coming because that cramps are *that much* better. I love Aviva Romm’s post on endometriosis. It might help out! Oh, there is also research showing melatonin can reduce pelvic pain, so Cait – maybe that can help you sleep a little better, too?!

    Melatonin doesn’t help me like it helps others. Believe me I have tried. I *will* try turmeric though because so many folks are mentioning that and it is something I have yet to try! Thank you!!

    Y’all, this was excellent! I am a mom to 9dc & 6 of them are girls, yep.

    My oldest girl (17) has had issues with her cycles coming too close together; like maybe a 2 week break if she was lucky. B vitamins has helped with that now her cycle is still short but not crazy-you-can’t-have-a-life short.

    As for myself and my family, we have really heavy periods so I definitely want to try the diva cup (maybe it will be a weird right of passage for my girls, “OK honey, your 16 now. Instead of a car or a fancy party you get your first Diva cup!”)

    One thing that helps me now is tracking my cycle. I can anticipate when things are going to be tough and plan around it. I also love that when my girls are in that time of the month where they are crampy or cranky or both they are free to take care of themselves, though work still has to get done.

    I just wanted to say I loved this episode! I listened to it while riding on the Moscow metro (possibly the place with the most solemn people in the world) and literally burst into fits of giggles about every 3-4 minutes and received many, many strange looks. Thanks for brightening my day!
